Our Standards
The brands in our marketplace are committed to reducing negative environmental and toxic impacts of consumerism. SISTAIN Approved methodology assesses toxicity, product materials, product lifecycle, product origin, timeless quality, brand progress, eco-packaging and social responsibility of the brand.
We maintain dialogue with each company, send out brand surveys and collect proprietary data as well as third-party data to verify brands as SISTAIN Approved.
Non-Toxic Materials & Ingredients
Plant-Based, Recycled, Plastic-Free, Non-Toxic
We assess and document ingredient and material certifications, such as MADE SAFE, GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), OEKO-TEX Standard 100, USDA Certified BioBased Product and only curate items made of sustainable plant-based or recycled materials that are plastic-free made with non-toxic ingredients.
Sustainable Packaging
Compostable, Biodegradable, Recycled, Recyclable
We make sure that a brand uses sustainable materials for packaging, including all shipping materials.
Corporate Social Responsibility
Give Back Programs, Certifications
We asses and document a brand's certifications, such as Fair Trade, 1% for the Planet, Climate-Neutral Certified and Plastic Negative.
Product Life Cycle
Recyclable, Compostable, Biodegradable or Reusable
We define the End of Life within product descriptions, so you know what to do with it at the end of its life. We also assess and document certifications, such as Cradle to Cradle, an approach to the design and the production of products in such a way that at the end of their life, they can truly be recycled (upcycled) or returned to the Earth.
Product Origin
Supply Chain Transparency
We are working on building out a model for increased traceability within the supply chain system, the capability to trace all processes from procurement of raw materials to production, consumption and disposal to clarify when and where the product was produced and by whom.
Timeless Quality
Durability & Longevity
Unlike fast fashion, we only curate items that are timeless in nature, are durable and known for its longevity.
Brand Progress
How Much Progress Has the Brand Made
We take into consideration what the brand is working towards and how much progress has been made towards sustainability.
