The Best Sustainable, Non-Toxic Laundry Detergent

ACCORDING TO THE SISTAIN COMMUNITY

What is the most sustainable, non-toxic laundry detergent that actually works?

I get this question most frequently. It’s an easy change, swapping your laundry detergent for something that’s less harmful to the earth and ourselves. But not all products that are sustainable and non-toxic actually work (trust me, I’ve tested a lot of them). So I asked the community and this is what they said…

Biokleen

MALIA NOLL, FOUNDER OF WELL KEPT DWELLING CO.

I learned about Biokleen while listening to Dr. Gonzales’s podcast Heal Thy Self and really trust his judgement when it comes to non-toxic products. I’ve been using Biokleen for over 3 years and absolutely love it!

TruEarth

ALYSON STICKEL

I’ve been using TruEarth laundry sheets for the last year now and I have nothing but good things to say about them. They’re hypoallergenic and I’ve never had any issues with my sensitive skin like I’ve had in the past with other detergents. The detergent cleans great and my clothes always smell fresh and clean. The best part for me is that they come in strips and they’re so easy and convenient to use! No more plastic containers that never actually get recycled!

Branch Basics

JACLYN TRACY, FOUNDER OF SISTAIN

I heard about these two products over and over from our community so I had to test them myself! As soon as I had the products in hand, Bugsy, my dog, threw up all over a light beige blanket. A perfect test.

I added a mix of Oxygen Boost with Laundry Detergent and boom blanket was clean just like that. And now I’m a believer. Also cool it comes in a concentrate, so the brand doesn’t waste any energy shipping majority water (which is what most detergents and soaps do).

SHOP SISTAIN LAUNDRY COLLECTION

Refillery: Bestowed Essentials Laundry Powder, Koko Shop

ERIN LAFFERTY

Yes, I really like it! It comes unscented, so I just add essential oil to it - usually citrus. My husband works road construction and I cloth diaper my baby and I think it does just as good at getting out stains and smells as anything else I've ever used. I also have pretty sensitive skin and the laundry powder is gentle enough that I've never had a rash.

Nine Elements

ANNA BECKER

Love Nine Elements because it cleans really well and is EWG Verified! Our three young kids definitely get their clothes dirty, and this has been the one brand we have found that gets their clothes clean without the harmful ingredients! ✨

Root & Splendor

BALANCED REFILLERY

I love Root and Splendor Hush laundry concentrate because it’s smells amazing, clean ingredients, and cleans even the dirtiest of loads
